Lousson Baumgartner-Reinhardt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lousson Baumgartner-Reinhardt (* 1929 as Henri Baumgartner , † 1992 ) was a French jazz guitarist ; Django Reinhardt's eldest son only performed occasionally.

Live and act

Baumgartner-Reinhardt is the son of Reinhardt and his first wife, Florine "Bella" Mayer; However, the two separated shortly after the birth of the child, who was raised in his mother's family; The surname of his mother's second husband, "Niglo" Baumgartner, was therefore on the child's birth certificate. Although father and son only met on a few occasions, Django Reinhardt allegedly taught him to play the guitar; he was accompanied by him on a tour through Belgium in 1948 (during which joint recordings were made).

Baumgartner-Reinhardt also lived nomadically in the 1950s and 1960s. In Paris he was in the studio with violinist Vivian Villerstein. He also played sporadically in bars in Paris, accompanied by Francis-Alfred Moerman . Private recordings with his quartet from 1966 were published posthumously on the CDs Gipsy Jazz School and Pour que ma vie demeure (Intégrale Django Reinhardt, Vol. 20. ). He also appeared at the festivals held in Samois-sur-Seine in honor of his father ; he can also be seen in a 1978 documentary about his father on Danish TV. Stylistically, he was not only from his father, but also from Wes Montgomery and Jim Hall . influenced. After living in Italy in the 1980s, he returned to France in the early 1990s.

The guitarist Dallas Baumgartner (* 1981) is his grandson.
