Francis-Alfred Moerman

Francis-Alfred Moerman (* 1936 in Ghent ; † 10. July 2010 ) was a Belgian-French jazz guitarist of gypsy jazz .

Live and act

Moerman, who had Spanish and Flemish roots, learned the banjo , mandolin and guitar as a child . Just before the Second World War, his family moved to central France. He attended school in Paris, where he had contact with musicians from the Gitanes and the Manouches . In 1960 Moerman played with Sarane Ferret . In the following years he also accompanied Baro Ferret , Matelo Ferret , Sara Neagu, Lajos Kazanova, Lousson Baumgartner-Reinhardt , Vivian Villerstein and Jacques Montagne. After several years of musical inactivity, he founded the jazz trio Tzigane de France , with Jean Toupance and Al Dubreuil, later with Gilles Parodi and Ladislas Gobert, with whom he recorded several albums and toured France, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He also recorded with the Hot Club de Norvège . In the field of jazz he was also involved in six recording sessions between 1976 and 1984.
