Loux Marlafekas SA ( Greek Λουξ ) is a Greek beverage manufacturer based in Patras . Until 1967, the company had a quasi-monopoly position in the country for soft drinks . To this day it is the market leader in the Peloponnese , while in the rest of the country it enjoys the status of a niche or cult product.

history

Until the 20th century, Patras had many factories producing liqueurs and other mostly alcoholic beverages, including eleven that also sold non-alcoholic beverages. Loux was founded in 1950 by Panagiotis Marlafekas as a pure soft drink brand, initially with the products orange lemonade , lemonade and soda . In 1967 Coca-Cola and Pepsi began bottling in Greece, so Loux had to invest in modern bottling plants and a new factory. In 1972 the new plant was put into operation near the Kafalovrissou spring in the town of the same name. In 2006 the plant moved again.

The company is also present in the media through numerous charity campaigns, for example, during the forest fires in Greece in 2007, 10 cents of every drink sold was donated to the victims of the fire. Loux is best known as the namesake of the Ormi-Loux Patras handball club , but not the main sponsor.

Products

Lemonades, juices, cola, tonic water and soda are produced.
