Lovćen
The Lovćen ( Serbian : Ловћен) is a main mountain range of Montenegro . The highest points are Štirovnik ( 1749 m ) and Jezerski Vrh ( 1657 m ). Lovćen lies between the Adriatic coast and the Bay of Kotor . The cities of Kotor , Budva and Cetinje are located at the foot of the mountain range .
At the summit Jezerski Vrh standing Njegoš - Mausoleum of Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic , built from 1970 to 1974. Petar II. Petrović Njegoš had a burial chapel built on the summit in 1845. Njegoš was buried there in 1854 a few years after his death. The burial chapel was destroyed in the First World War and restored in 1925.
In the years before the First World War , the massif was expanded into a strong fortification with French help, which dominated the Austro-Hungarian naval port of Cattaro with its artillery . In the period from January 8th to 11th, 1916, the mountain was conquered by the Austrians during the campaign against Montenegro .
The Karst Mountains are a national park (64 km²) and are home to rare plants and animals.
