Low is an American band from Duluth , Minnesota . She has been playing slow to very slow independent music since 1993 . The band is considered to be one of the pioneers of the slowcore subgenre , even if they themselves reject this designation. According to singer Alan Sparhawk, it was made by a friend of the band, but was intended more as a joke than he once dropped it in an interview, which helped establish the term. The founding members Alan Sparhawk (guitar, vocals) and Mimi Parker (drums, vocals) are currently playing in a tried and tested trio formation with bassist Steve Garrington. Parker and Sparhawk are married with two children and are Mormons .
