The Lower Falls are waterfalls of the Yellowstone River in the US state of Wyoming . They are located east of Canyon Village, at the southern end of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park . With a drop of 94 m, they are the highest falls in the park and almost twice as high as Niagara Falls .
The Lower Falls can be viewed from four vantage points: Inspiration Point , Grandview Point, and Lookout Point east of the gorge and Artist Point on the west side.
The name first appeared on a map from 1869. In 1889 a plan was circulating that an elevator would take visitors directly to the base of the Lower Falls; the plan was never implemented.
There are two other falls nearby, the Upper Falls in the south and the Crystal Falls in the west.
