Luc Vinet
Luc Vinet (born April 16, 1953 in Montreal ) is a Canadian theoretical physicist.
Vinet studied at the University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie) with a Doctorat de 3e cycle and at the University of Montreal , where he received his PhD in 1980 under Pavel Winternitz ( Solutions invariantes des equations de Yang-Mills dans l 'espace de Minkowski ). He was a post-doctoral student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has taught at the University of Montreal since the early 1980s. From 1993 to 1999 he was director of the Center de Recherches Mathématiques (CRM) at the University of Montreal. In 1999 he became Provost of McGill University and in 2005 Rector of the University of Montreal. During this time he initiated the establishment of another campus (in Outremont, MIL), the establishment of the School of Public Health, the Cité du Savoir in Laval and the establishment of the International Forum of Public Universities.
He deals with integrable systems, gauge field theories, supersymmetry, quantum algebras and combinatorics.
In 2012 he received the CAP-CRM Prize . In 2009 he became an officer of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques and in 2017 an officer of the National Order of Quebec. He is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and an honorary doctorate from the Claude-Bernard University in Lyon (2006). In 2009 he received the Prix du Québec Armand-Frappier.
