Lucius Attius Lucanus
Lucius Attius Lucanus (full name form Lucius Attius Luci filius Voltinia Lucanus ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 1st century AD . Individual stations of his career are known through an inscription. His career is shown in the inscription in ascending order.
Lucanus was first Signifer and then Centurion . Most recently he was still a tribune of the Cohors I Civium Romanorum ; the rise to knighthood was connected with it. Due to the fact that Lucanus was able to rise from the centurion to the tribune, it is believed that this took place before the reign of Claudius (41-54). If he is identical to Lucius Attius Luci Attii [] mentioned in another inscription, then he was Primus Pilus before he became a tribune.
Lucanus was inscribed in the Voltinia tribe and probably came from Nemausus , today's Nîmes , where the two inscriptions were also found.

Remarks
- ↑ The number of the cohort has been lost in the inscription. Some historians suggest reading Cohors V Civium Romanorum instead of reading Cohors I Civium Romanorum .
