Lucius Caecilius Metellus Delmaticus
Lucius Caecilius Metellus Delmaticus (also Dalmaticus ; * around 160 BC; † 103 BC ) was a Roman politician at the end of the 2nd century BC. BC and member of the Meteller branch of the gens Caecilia .
Lucius Caecilius Metellus Delmaticus was the consul's eldest son in 142 BC. BC, Lucius Caecilius Metellus Calvus . The later opponent of Gaius Marius was in 119 BC. Elected consul together with Lucius Aurelius Cotta . In the two following years he was proconsul in Dalmatia and received for a victory over the Dalmater, for which he also 117 BC. Was honored with a triumph , the nickname Delmaticus . From the spoils of war he renewed the Castor temple and had a temple built for Ops Opifera . He or his namesake Lucius Caecilius Metellus Diadematus was censor along with Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus . He also held the office of Pontifex Maximus . In this role he led 114 BC A trial against three Vestal Virgins for unchastity.
Caecilius Metellus had three children, the consul of 68 BC. BC, Lucius Caecilius Metellus , Marcus Caecilius Metellus and Caecilia Metella , the wife of Marcus Aemilius Scaurus and then of Lucius Cornelius Sulla .
