Lucius Calpurnius Piso (Consul 57)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lucius Calpurnius Piso († 70 in Carthage ) was a Roman politician and senator .

Piso was the son of Lucius Calpurnius Piso , consul of the year 27. He married Licinia Magna . In 57 Piso became a full consul. In the 69/70 year of office he was proconsul of Africa .

His administration does not seem to have been successful. Tacitus reports that the people of Rome suspected that Piso had started a rebellion. In reality, grain deliveries from Africa to the capital only failed to materialize because windstorms had hindered shipping. Shortly afterwards, Piso was murdered in Carthage by the imperial legate Gaius Valerius Festus .

Other offices in the provinces are not known for him. As curator aquarum he took care of the water pipes (60/63) of the city of Rome, in addition he was Arvalbuder and probably also pontiff .
