Lucrécia Ester Paco (born October 19, 1969 in Lourenço Marques , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican actress.

Life

Lucrécia Paco was born on October 19, 1969 in Lourenço Marques, the capital of the Portuguese colony of Mozambique. She grew up in the airport district ( Bairro Aeroporto ) in an extended family with four siblings and five half-siblings. She is said to have been interested in singing and dance at an early age, although the colonial administration had banned the practice of local traditions. After Mozambique gained independence and during the civil war between FRELIMO and RENAMO , small theater groups emerged with whom Paco appeared in public for the first time.

Theater career

In 1984 Paco took part in the selection for the play Tchova , was accepted, and then worked for the first time at the Maputo theater Teatro Avenida . There she met the actress and director Manuela Soeiro , among others . Together with Soeiro and other friends, Paco founded the Mutumbela Gogo theater group in 1986/87 , the first professional theater group in Mozambique. The group achieved their breakthrough in 1989 with the piece Nove Horas . Mutumbela Gogo worked with the writers Mia Couto and Henning Mankell , among others . The world even described Paco as Mankell's “favorite actress”. The group traveled all over Mozambique and performed in numerous villages and towns.

In 2010 Paco appeared in the first Mozambican telenovela Nineteens on the state broadcaster TVM . The 38-episode series was written by Mozambican Chico Amorim .

International engagement

Paco has worked his way up to one of the most famous actresses in Mozambique and appears in the theater, in films and on television. She has also participated in several co-productions on an international level, including a. at the Backa Teater in Göteborg (Sweden), at the Schauspielhaus Graz , at the Bonlieu Scène Nationale in Annecy (France), at the Center Dramatique de l'Océan India (Reunion Island).

Paco is married and has three children.
