Ludmilla Jordanova

Ludmilla Jordanova (born October 10, 1949 ) is an English professor of history and philosophy.

Life

From 1958 to 1968 Jordanova attended Oxford High School for Girls, then New Hall at Cambridge University . There she graduated with a bachelor's degree in history in 1971 and received her doctorate in 1977. Until the end of 1979 she worked in research in Cambridge and Oxford.

In 1980 she moved to the University of Essex , where she became a professor and stayed until 1993. She then spent three years as a professor of cultural history at the University of York . From 1996 to 2002 she was Professor of Art History at the University of East Anglia (UEA), and from 1999 to 2002 she was also Dean of the Schools of World Art Studies and Music there.

From 2003 to 2005 she was Director of the Center for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) in Cambridge and from January 2006 Professor of Modern History at King's College London. Since September 2013 she has been a professor at Durham University .

  • President of the British Society for the History of Science (1998–2000) and Vice President (1997-98 and 2000-01)
  • President of the History of Science Section, British Association for the Advancement of Science (2006) and Vice President (2007)
  • National Portrait Gallery Trustee (2001-09)
  • Trustee of the Science Museum Group (since 2011)

Jordanova writes for the following journals: The British Journal for the History of Science , History of the Human Sciences and the Historical Journal .
