Ludwig A. Meyer House in Guben

The Ludwig-A.-Meyer-Haus is a listed villa at Uferstrasse 11 in Guben .

history

The building was built in 1898 in the neo-renaissance style. The two-storey, square building is complemented by a side-mounted tower with a round arched entrance and a small column of the Corinthian order . A bay window on the ground floor carries a terrace above, which - optically structured by pilaster strips - ends in the triangular gable with a round window and the year "1898" above. The interplay of the window ledges is striking . On the ground floor, the left window front is spanned by a round arch, while the right front runs horizontally over the bay window. On the upper floor, these two forms are reversed.

The villa initially belonged to the mechanical engineer Heinze , among others , but was acquired in 1922 by the Jewish manufacturer Ludwig A. Meyer . Meyer had to emigrate in 1938 , the building was withdrawn from the German Reich and from then on used by the site elder of the Guben Garrison von Hase . After the end of the Second World War , it served as a hospital and children's facility.

Todays use

In 1992 the city acquired the building and renovated the White Villa , as it is also called. The city opened the German-Slavic Cultural Center Ludwig-A.-Meyer-Haus there on February 24, 1996 . It serves as a cultural meeting place to arouse interest and understanding for Polish culture and Slavic customs in the area around the town of Guben. Lecture series and panel discussions as well as readings and concerts take place. In 2012, the city put the building up for sale. It is planned to put up a memorial plaque about the history of the villa.
