Ludwig Erhard Prize (ILEP)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ludwig Erhard Prize of the Initiative Ludwig Erhard Prize is awarded annually by the initiative.

Initiative Ludwig Erhard Prize

The ILEP is managed by a board of directors, which includes seven members' representatives and the full-time managing director. The representatives are one from the German Society for Quality and one from the Association of German Engineers , one from the Ludwig Erhard Foundation and four representatives from the ILEP members. All organizations can join the ILEP as sponsoring members, but not individuals.

Goal of the price

The award is given to holistic management achievements that build on the basic idea of excellence - customer orientation, process optimization and innovation - and promote the sustainable development of companies in competition. The Ludwig Erhard Prize is linked to internationally recognized awards for comprehensive quality management such as the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) in the USA, the Japanese Deming Prize or the European Quality Prize .

Assessment process

The award ceremony is preceded by an "assessment process".

For the application, an application brochure of at least 25 pages is required, which highlights the main procedures and results. This is only needed to plan the on-site visit. The on-site visit will then take place. Every applicant can be sure that the assessors will come to him in the organization. During the visit, the applicant's competitiveness will be examined using the EFQM model and a feedback report will be created. The rating (RADAR rating system) on a scale between 0 and 1000 characterizes the degree of maturity of the organization and, together with the strengths and potentials found, forms the basis for the jury's decision.

As the first step in the classic process, the applicant submits a 75-page, written application document to the project manager at the beginning of the year. Applicants for the Ludwig Erhard Prize take into account the requirements of the EFQM model developed by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) in their application . This application document is initially assessed individually by a team of five to six EFQM assessors and as a team during the so-called consensus meeting. If the applicant achieves a predetermined minimum number of points, the team goes to the applicant for a two to three day on-site visit. During the on-site visit, the team verifies the application and forms a final judgment and writes the final report with the points evaluation. The assessment reports of all teams are presented to a jury made up of representatives from business and science. This makes the final decision about the awards.

Award ceremony

The award ceremony usually takes place in June, mostly in Berlin. Up until 2017 there were three types of awards: Finalist recognition, an award, and the award. While the number of finalists and winners can fluctuate, the Ludwig Erhard Prize was only awarded once until 2002. From 2003 the prize will be awarded once per category. As of 2017, the prize will be awarded in three prize categories, whereby each prize category can now be filled multiple times so that the success of one applicant is not influenced by the success of another applicant.

Between 2001 and 2003 the Ludwig Erhard Prize was awarded in four categories:

  • Large companies (abbr. GU, more than 500 full-time employees)
  • Medium-sized companies (abbr. MU, 101–500 full-time employees)
  • Small companies (abbreviation KU, fewer than 100 full-time employees)
  • Smallest companies (abbr. KLU, 1–15 full-time employees)

From 2012 the Ludwig Erhard Prize will be awarded in four categories:

  • Large organizations (abbr.GO, more than 500 full-time employees)
  • Medium-sized companies (abbr. M, 101–500 full-time employees)
  • Small organizations (abbr.KO, fewer than 100 full-time employees)
  • Smallest organizations (abbr. KLO, 1–15 full-time employees)

As of 2017, the prize for the size categories introduced in 2012 will be awarded in three prize categories:

  • "German Excellence Award in Gold"
  • "German Excellence Award in Silver"
  • "German Excellence Award in Bronze"
