Ludwig Bair (* 1558 in Memmingen ; † in the 17th century in Augsburg ) was a German draftsman .

Life

Ludwig Bair was born in Memmingen in Upper Swabia in 1558 . He was probably the son of a Ludwig Bair from Memmingen, who had had citizenship in Augsburg since 1561. Since his father's death in 1605, Bair lived with the Merck family in Augsburg. At whose expense he learned from 1587 in Zurich the painting . In 1585 he created an important iconographic illuminated manuscript with 75 portraits of Augsburg reformers in ink and chalk for his host family. Contains portraits of Georg Lang, Heinrich Zirr and the monogrammist NR (New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt). His self-portrait is also in this book. Since the work only contains the first name, archive director Wiedemann assigned the last name to him.
