Life

Crommes father was a teacher of Latin and Greek. His brother Gerhard Cromme , who was eight years older , became known as a manager at Krupp and ThyssenKrupp and later as the long-standing chairman of the supervisory board of Siemens.

Ludwig Cromme studied mathematics, physics and mathematical logic at the San Bernardino Valley College and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster . From 1974 to 1977 he was a research assistant in the Collaborative Research Center 72 (SFB 72, Approximation and Optimization) at the University of Bonn , where he received his doctorate in 1975 under Robert Schaback ( dissertation : Tangential cone method for determining the best nonlinear approximations ). In 1979 he completed his habilitation in Göttingen (habilitation thesis: Approximation on manifolds with points ), and in 1980/81 he was a visiting scientist at the University of California, Berkeley . After substituting professorships in Münster and Saarbrücken, he became professor for numerical mathematics at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in 1983 . In 1991 he was the founding dean of Faculty I for Mathematics, Natural Science and Computer Science at the BTU Cottbus.

He dealt with numerical mathematics , optimization , fixed point sets , approximation , fuzzy logic , neural networks and image recognition .

Cromme was a member of the Alternative for Germany . He acted as the state commissioner for the “Wahlalternative 2013” 2012/2013 or the AfD in Brandenburg and was also a member of the AfD federal board for a while.
