Ludwig Ebner

Ludwig Ebner (born November 3, 1858 in Deggendorf ; † August 25, 1903 there ) was a German composer and church musician .

Life

The son of the Deggendorf city tower master Carl Ebner received his first music lessons from him at the age of eight, especially organ playing. At the age of seventeen he was given the position of organist at the parish church of the Assumption of Mary in Deggendorf at the Metten monastery and later with cathedral organist J. Hanisch in Regensburg. After his father's death, he also took over his position as choir regent. Not tired of learning, he became a student of Joseph Rheinberger in Munich and studied counterpoint with him, which he completed with distinction. Ludwig Ebner died at the age of 44 after a serious illness.

Most of his compositions Ebner shaped the spirit of his teacher. But he did not deny that he also studied the old masters and that he must have been an admirer of Richard Wagner because of the often bold harmony . Ebner left behind 62 works, mainly church music, which are still singing good of our church choirs in our time.
