Ludwig Elsner

Ludwig Elsner (born January 17, 1939 in Groß-Strehlitz ) is a German mathematician and professor at Bielefeld University , who deals with linear algebra and numerical linear algebra.

Professional career

Elsner received his doctorate in 1965 under Lothar Collatz at the University of Hamburg ( inclusion sentences for eigenvalues ​​of non-normal matrices ). In 1970 he completed his habilitation in Hamburg and in 1971 became scientific advisor and professor at the University of Erlangen . From the 1970s he was a professor in Bielefeld .

In addition to linear algebra, he also deals with numerical mathematics (he also published with Helmut Hasse on algorithmic number theory).

In 1999 he received the Hans Schneider Prize in Linear Algebra. Since 1983 he has been co-editor of Linear Algebra and its Applications.
