Ludwig Franz Alexander Winther (born March 9, 1812 in Offenbach am Main , † April 26, 1871 in Gießen ) was a German pathologist and ophthalmologist (eye doctor).

Life

Winther studied medicine at the University of Gießen from the summer semester of 1831 and became a member of the old Gießen fraternity of Germania in 1831 and of the Corps Palatia in 1833 . From 1848 to 1867 he was an associate professor of general pathology and therapy and from 1867 until his death in 1871 he was the first full professor of general pathology and pathological anatomy at the University of Giessen .

In 1847, Winther was a founding member of the Gießener Sonderbund , an association of lecturers at the University of Gießen.

He was the son-in-law of the ophthalmologist Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Balser .
