Ludwig Günderoth

Ludwig Günderoth (born November 2, 1910 in Mannheim ; † March 1, 1994 ), also called "Gimbel", was a German football player and coach.

Player career

First Günderoth played at Olympia Lampertheim , before he established himself as a dangerous winger at SV Waldhof Mannheim from 1932 up to and including the first season of the league after the war in 1945/46. With SV Waldhof, he was five times champion of the Gauliga Baden in those years , he also played 15 district, association and city selection games. One of the highlights of his time at the Waldhof was his participation in the final of the Tschammerpokal , the forerunner of the DFB Cup, in April 1940. He and his team lost 2-0 to 1. FC Nürnberg in front of 60,000 spectators in the Berlin Olympic Stadium . The course of the final round of the German championship in 1940 was not inferior. In the group games, the blue-blacks prevailed against 1. FC Nürnberg, Stuttgarter Kickers and Kickers Offenbach. Only in the semi-finals did Günderoth and his teammates Helmut Schneider, Reinhold Fanz sen. and Josef Erb with 1: 3 goals in Stuttgart against FC Schalke 04 with their stars Hans Klodt, Otto Tibulski, Herbert Burdenski, Hermann Eppenhoff, Fritz Szepan and Ernst Kuzorra. In the game for third place on July 21, 1940, the competitors SK Rapid Wien and Waldhof Mannheim thrilled the 90,000 spectators in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. The 4: 4 after extra time brought the audience more in the mood, as it was able to bring the subsequent final between Schalke and Dresdner SC. Also in the replay on July 28th in Vienna (2: 5 defeat) Günderoth belonged to the Waldhof attack. From 1934 to 1942 he played for Waldhof in 20 final rounds of the German championship. In the 1946/47 season he let his playing career, after an interlude at Mainz 05 , then come to an end with local rivals and Waldhof's former league rivals, VfR Mannheim . In the Oberliga Süd he led from 1945 to 1947 with 17 games and three goals.

Coaching career

In his coaching career, he led ASV Feudenheim and SV Sandhausen to the North Baden amateur championship twice. He then trained the SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim , with which he was able to achieve three promotions. At SV Waldhof, he was appointed interim coach three times in 1956 in the II. Division , 1966 in the Regionalliga Süd and most recently in the Second Bundesliga at the end of 1978.

Ludwig Günderoth was a member of SV Waldhof from 1925.
