Ludwig (French: Louis de France ; * 1264 ; † May 1276 in Vincennes Castle ) was a prince from the ruling family of the Capetians and an heir to the throne of France .

Ludwig was the eldest son of the French king Philip III. the brave and his first wife Isabella of Aragón and thus the designated heir to the French throne since August 1270. However, he died in the castle of Vincennes in 1276 at the age of twelve and was buried in the Abbey of Saint-Denis . His younger brother Philip the Fair became the new heir to the throne .

Two years after his death, the influential royal chamberlain, Pierre de la Brosse , fell over it , who had accused Queen Maria of Brabant of the poisoning of her stepson Ludwig. However, this suspicion fell back on de la Brosse, for which he was hanged . The actual circumstances surrounding the death of Prince Ludwig ultimately remain unclear.
