Air raids on Dorsten
The air raids on Dorsten took place between March 14, 1941 and March 28, 1945 over the city of Dorsten , which at that time belonged to Prussia . Dorsten was regularly the target of air raids by the Allied air forces. The most devastating bombing raid took place on Thursday, March 22, 1945 at 2:14 p.m. by British bombers. 100 Handley Page Halifax bombers, 12 Avro Lancaster bombers and 12 De Havilland DH.98 Mosquito bombers were involved . They started from High Wycombe in England. A total of 377 tons of air mines and high-explosive bombs were dropped over downtown Dorsten. 319 people died, 700 families became homeless, and the historic old town was almost completely destroyed.
