A Fistful of Alice is a music album first published on July 29, 1997 by the American rock musician Alice Cooper . It is the artist's second live album . It was recorded on Sunday June 2nd, 1996 in Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas with the help of numerous guest musicians . In addition to thirteen tracks recorded live, the album also contains a studio track.
background
Alice Cooper had released the concept album The Last Temptation in 1994 . Two years later, MTV planned to film a concert by Cooper. Originally it was planned to have this concert in Las Vegas , which was not possible due to problems with two potential organizers. It was decided to organize an exclusive concert in Cabo San Lucas, where the musician Sammy Hagar runs the Cabo Wabo Cantina nightclub. In addition to the associated logistical problems, there were also technical difficulties that made it necessary to take a 45-second break after every third song during the concert so that film roles could be changed.
Cooper had never been satisfied with his only live album to date, The Alice Cooper Show, released in 1977 . This album was made at the end of a long tour, Cooper himself was at the height of his alcohol addiction. Because of this, he liked the idea of playing in a small club like at the beginning of his career and recording the concert.
During the concert on June 2, 1996, Alice Cooper largely renounced his previously known spectacular stage show, costumes and horror scenarios, and instead focused on the music. Cooper's band consisted of guitarists Ryan Roxie and Reb Beach ( Winger , Whitesnake ), keyboardist Paul Taylor (already working for Cooper in 1986 and 1987 and then founding member of Winger), bassist Todd Jensen, and drummer Jimmy DeGrasso ( Y&T ). Sammy Hagar , Slash and Rob Zombie also performed as guest musicians .
In the end, 13 pieces were selected for publication on the CD. The album has since been re-released several times , sometimes with a different title ( Live At Cabo Wabo '96 , 2005). A full version of the concert can be heard on a version released in Japan in 2000 , the album became available digitally in 2003 and 2004, and a vinyl double album with 15 songs was released in 2010 .
Is Anyone Home?
The only recorded in the studio song of the album, Is Anyone Home ?, was admitted to the A & M Studios and Phase Four Recording Studio and Alice Cooper produced . The musicians involved besides Cooper were Dan Wexler and Steve Farris (guitars), Matt Laug (drums) and Merrit Morrison (bass).

reception
A Fistful of Alice was not listed in the charts.
Musikexpress said that the second live album in Alice Coopers “has nothing of the theatrical live shows of the past.” Cooper uses “standards like Elected or Feed My Frankenstein ,” but at the same time intones “Rares like Teenage Lament 74. ” And because "the old master is currently working on a new album", is there anything with Is Anyone Home? a "taste of upcoming deeds."
Rock Hard wrote that the sound quality and the selection of songs were “okay”, the level of play was “out of the question anyway”, since Cooper had “as always put a highly skilled backing band on the boards”. Overall, the album offers "13 live tracks and a - rather mediocre - studio bonus number" ( Is Anyone Home? ), With which Cooper suggests that "no particularly trend-oriented experiments are to be expected from his corner" in the future either.
The Rocks recognized the "Essentials" in the song selection and described the live recording as a "sparkling gem".
