success

School's Out was Alice Cooper 's first album, which also made it into the German and Austrian charts. In Germany it rose to number 3 and stayed in the top 10 for 12 weeks, while in Austria it reached number 8 and stayed in the charts for 12 weeks. In the United Kingdom and the USA, the first top 10 position was also achieved. In Canada, the album debuted at number 45 on July 15, 1972 and reached the top position within a month .

The album has sold more than a million copies and reached platinum status on September 19, 1990.

reception

Greg Prato from Allmusic awarded 4.5 / 5 stars. He attributes the success primarily to the title song of the same name , which he regards as a timeless classic. Compared to the previous albums Love It to Death and Killer , on which some hard rock classics could be found, School's Out appears as a concept album. Songs like Gutter Cat vs. the Jets , Street Fight , My Stars and Grand Finale are arranged like little epics, although Alice Cooper managed to keep her rough and unpolished style.

Rolling Stone's Ben Gerson also draws a comparison with the previous albums and comes to the conclusion that not all songs on School's Out can be described as rock music. Much of it is music as it is played in Broadway pieces or used for film soundtracks. Nevertheless it is a demanding album.
