Mack David (born July 5, 1912 in New York City , New York - † December 30, 1993 in Rancho Mirage , California ) was an American songwriter and composer of film scores and the one who won the Oscar for best song was nominated without ever receiving it.

David studied after school at Cornell University and law at the Law School of St. John's University .

In 1934 he became a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and, as a composer and songwriter, created the music for almost 200 films and television series . He worked with Jerry Livingston , Al Hoffman , Alex Kramer , Joan Whitney , Frankie Carle , Count Basie , Burt Bacharach , Ernest Gold , Elmer Bernstein , Frank De Vol and Henry Mancini .

At the Academy Awards in 1951 he was next to A. Hoffman and J. Livingston for the first time nominated for the Oscar for the best song for "Bibbidy-Bobbidi-Boo" from the cartoon Cinderella (1950).
