action

Dove Linkhorn is a poor farmer in Texas in the 1930s . He travels to Louisiana to find his lost love, Hallie Gerard. On the way, he meets the homeless young Kitty Twist and the hot-blooded Mexican widow Teresina Vidaverri, who runs a café. Eventually Dove arrives in New Orleans and finds Hallie in a brothel run by Jo Courtney. Although he sees that she works as a prostitute, he tries to persuade her to come with him. He also manages to convince Hallie of his honest intentions, but Courtney refuses to accept Hallie leaving her. She knocks Dove out. Kitty Twist finds him, takes him to Teresina and informs Hallie. She makes her way to the café, but is followed by Courtney and Oliver. Oliver shoots Dove but hits Hallie instead, and she dies in Dove's arms.

Reviews

“Routine but sensationally staged, the initially gripping social criticism is increasingly losing its credibility and degenerating into a gossip. Outstanding alone is the title opening designed by Saul Bass with a black cat ready to jump and fight. "
