life and career

Joanna Moore lost her family in a car accident in 1941, while her sister and mother died immediately, her father succumbed a year later. She was then raised by her grandmother and later by a wealthy local family. While studying at Agnes Scott College , a beauty pageant attracted the attention of the movie business. She had one of her first significant roles as the daughter of the murder victim in the classic film Under Signs of Evil (1958), directed by Orson Welles . The blonde then played alongside Paul Muni in his last film role in The Wrath of the Righteous (1959) and alongside Elvis Presley in A Summer in Florida (1962). However, Moore spent most of her Hollywood career as a guest actress on numerous US television series. She took one of her best-known roles in Robert Altman's science fiction film Countdown: Start to the Moon in 1967 .

Joanna Moore was married to actor Don Oreck from 1955 to 1957 after a first, brief marriage to Willis Moore in 1951 . In her third marriage, she was with her fellow actor Ryan O'Neal from 1963 to 1967 , from the marriage come the children Tatum (* 1963) and Griffin O'Neal (* 1964), both of whom are also active as actors. A fourth marriage to roofer Gary Reeves in the 1970s also ended in divorce.

From the late 1960s onwards, Joanna Moore had increasing problems with alcohol and other drugs , which may also have been a reason for her dwindling film career. In 1971 she was jailed for drunk driving, after which her ex-husband O'Neal was given custody of the children. She got one of her last notable roles in 1975 in the disaster film Die Hindenburg by Robert Wise , most recently in 1984 in the film Run Chrissie Run! in front of the camera. Despite several withdrawal regimens, Moore struggled with addiction problems for the rest of her life. She recently had to be financially supported by her daughter Tatum. The long-time smoker died in 1997 at the side of her daughter at the age of 63 of lung cancer.
