Jerry Livingston

Jerry Livingston (actually Jerry Levinson ; born March 25, 1909 in Denver , USA ; † July 1, 1987 ) was an American songwriter and composer.

Life

Livingston wrote songs for countless movies and television series between the 1940s and 1960s. In the cinema one heard among other things his song Bibbidy-Bobbidi-Boo for the Walt Disney film " Cinderella " ( Cinderella , 1950), for which he received his first Oscar nomination in 1951 . 1962 followed the second Oscar nomination for the theme song of the film " Der Galgenbaum " ( The Hanging Tree , 1960) with Gary Cooper and Maria Schell .

Of his television tunes , the series Bronco , Cheyenne , 77 Sunset Strip , New Orleans, Bourbon Street or the theme song of the cartoon series Casper, the friendly spirit , which he wrote with Mack David , are also known in German-speaking countries .

In 1966, Livingston received his third Oscar nomination, The Ballad of Cat Ballou, for the theme song of the musical western " Cat Ballou - You should hang in Wyoming " ( Cat Ballou ), the text of which was in turn written by Mack David and in the film by Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye is sung. For the song, they also received a Golden Globes nomination and a second place at the Laurel Awards .

Jerry Livingston was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1981.
