Stubby Kaye
Stubby Kaye (born November 11, 1918 in New York , New York , USA, † December 14, 1997 in Los Angeles , California ), actually Bernard Kotzin , was an American entertainer, singer and actor.
Life
Kaye, who never revealed his real name during his lifetime, began his career in the entertainment industry in 1939 after winning a radio competition. He appeared in American vaudeville for over a decade as a comedian and also toured with the USO to entertain the soldiers during World War II .
Kaye made his breakthrough on Broadway in 1950 with the role of Nicely-Nicely Johnson in the musical " Guys and Dolls " and continued his Broadway success with the role of Marryin 'Sam in the musical " Li'l Abner " (1956). He was to play both of these roles in the successful film adaptations of the musicals.
In the 1960s, Kaye received her own children's program on television and also appeared as a comedic secondary actor in movies, such as Cat Ballou - Hang Out in Wyoming (1965) as a traveling musician alongside Nat King Cole . Kaye has appeared on television in various series such as Love and Marriage (1959), Alfred Hitchcock shows ( The Alfred Hitchcock Hour , 1963), Amos Burke ( Burke's Law , 1963), The Monkees (1968), Adam-12 (1971 ) or most recently in the British long-term science fiction series Doctor Who (1987). In between, Kaye was repeatedly seen either on stage, in musicals like Everybody Loves Opal (1961), Good News (1974), The Ritz (1975), Fiddler on the Roof and Grind (1985), or on the big screen in the musical adaptation Sweet Charity (1969) or the western Der Weg nach Westen ( The Way West , 1967). His last major role was played by Kaye as a murder victim Marvin Acme in the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit ( Who Framed Roger Rabbit , 1988).
Kaye has been a guest rater on What's My Line? , the American original template of “ What am I? “, And regular guess in 16 episodes of the pantomime quiz on American television. Stubby Kaye was married twice: only one year to Jeanne Watson (1960/61) and until his death from lung cancer to Angela Bracewell, a former TV show host on British television.
