The air side is a technical term with different meanings.

Hydraulic engineering

In hydraulic engineering , the air side refers to the side of a barrier structure facing away from the (dammed) water (the reservoir ) , particularly in the case of a dam , dike or dam . The opposite side is the water side .

Upper water and lower water are the corresponding terms when there is water on both sides of the structure, for example in a weir or a run-of- river power plant .

Airport

At airports, the movement areas of the aircraft as well as the adjacent areas are behind the security controls as air side ( English airside called). They differ from the generally accessible land side by the restricted access authorizations.
