Air Force Cross of Merit (Spain)
The Air Force Cross of Merit ( es. Cruz del Mérito Aeronáutico ) was donated by decree on November 30, 1945 by the Spanish head of state Franco and is intended to be awarded to nationals and foreigners who have rendered outstanding services to this branch of the armed forces. The administration was under the War Ministry and is now part of the Defense Minister .
Order classes
The order is divided into three classes and is divided into two departments for merit in times of war and times of peace:
- III. class
- II class
- I. class
- Silver Cross of Merit
Order decoration
The medal is a golden Greek cross , which is enamelled red (war merit) or white depending on the department . It is surmounted by a crown and in the upper cross arm there is a small plate on which the date of the award is engraved. In the obverse there is a crowned pair of wings, in the middle of which the coat of arms of the armed forces can be seen. The reverse shows the monogram MA (Mérito Aeronáutico).

Carrying method
The III. Class is worn on a sash and with an eight-pointed golden breast star . Class II holders decorate the award with a silver breast star and the medal on a breast ribbon. Class I and the Silver Cross of Merit are worn on the ribbon on the left side of the chest.
The ribbon differs according to department, is white with a red median for military merit and white with a red border for civil merit. In both cases the chest strap is provided with a strap.
Others
The medal can also be awarded to residents with entitlement to a pension. There is also a white stripe on each of the three lower arms of the cross on the red medal and red stripes on the white medal.
