Location of the base

The Shamsi Airfield is a military airfield in the Pakistani province of Baluchistan . It is located 320 km southwest of Quetta near the village of Washki .

In February 2009, The Times published satellite images of several General Atomics MQ- 1s at Shamsi Air Force Base. According to the report, the base was used for the drone strikes in Pakistan .

From this base, the US military and the CIA launched drone attacks on al-Qaida and Taliban in the Pakistani-Afghan border area by the end of 2011.

After the attack on the Pakistani base in Salala in November 2011, the Pakistani government asked the US government to withdraw its armed forces from the base within 15 days. This was completed on December 11, 2011 and the military airfield was handed over to the armed forces of Pakistan .
