mythology

In the story Cath Maige Mucrama ("The Battle of Mag Mucrama") it is reported that Lugaid mac Con is driven from the throne by his foster brother Eogan. He then fled to Scotland, where he won the king as an assistant, raised an army and returned. In the battle of Mag Mucrama ("level of counting pigs" in Connacht , today County Galway ) he destroyed the troops of Eogan and his allies Art mac Cuinn , the father of the future High King Cormac mac Airt . Art is slain by Lugaid Lága and Eogan also falls in the fight.

Lugaid mac Con now rules all of Ireland from Tara . However, when he violates the commandment of the “truthfulness of the ruler” ( fír flathemon ) - he passes an unfair judgment in favor of his wife in a legal dispute - calamity comes in the form of sterility over his kingdom ( “... no grass came through the earth , nor leaf on tree, nor grain in corn. " ). Therefore, Lugaid is forced to abdicate by the people and fled to his foster father Ailill Aulom. However, he murders him in revenge for the death of his son Eogan.
