biography

Lugal-kiniše-dudu was the son of Enšakušana , who, according to the Sumerian King List, founded the 2nd Uruk dynasty. Lugal-kiniše-dudu is said to have succeeded his father on the throne of En in Uruk and then reigned for 120 years - a highly exaggerated statement in the list of kings, which is difficult to decipher at this point.

The text says:

"Lugal-ur-e / lugal-ki-ni-Se 3 -du 7 -du 7 /2 / SU-Si / mu / i 3 -ak"

or translated:

"Lugal-ur-e / Lugal-kiniše-dudu / 2 / sixty / years / ruled"

Existing inscriptions from Lugal-kiniše-dudu testify that he was not only able to preserve the power inherited from his predecessor, but also expanded it. He also called himself the king ( Lugal ) of Ur (and also of Kiš ):

"I exercise the Entum over Uruk and the Nam Lugal (kingship) in Ur"

- Kin-gen-eš-dudu

The most notable document mentioning Lugal-kiniše-dudu is a baked clay nail found in Girsu . The cuneiform text attached to it celebrates an alliance agreement with En-metena von Lagaš . This is the oldest known alliance or peace treaty between two rulers.

Lugal-kiniše-dudu was followed in Uruk, according to the Sumerian King List, by Argandea , who ruled for only 7 years.
