Lugalbanda ("the strong king") is in the mythology of the Sumerians a deified king of the first dynasty of Uruk and underworld god , who is considered the consort of the goddess Ninsunna and the father of Gilgamesh . Lugalbanda is known from the epics Lugalbanda and the cave as well as Lugalbanda and Enmerkar .
Lugalbanda, who initially served as a high officer under Enmerkar , received the divine qualities of power , speed and flying from Anzu during the campaign against Aratta :
"May (the ability to) walk be present in your hips, you should not tire, there may be strength in your arms, let your arms swing wide ... like the sunlight walking, like Inanna , like the seven storms of Iskur , rise like a fire, like a flash of lightning. Wherever you look, go to the spot you have chosen, put your foot down. "
