Corsican siskin ( Carduelis corsicana )

Systematics
Subordination : Songbirds (passeri)
Family : Finches (Fringillidae)
Subfamily : Goldfinches (Carduelinae)
Tribe : Carduelini
Genre : Carduelis
Type : Corsican siskin
Scientific name
Carduelis corsicana
( Koenig , 1899)

The Corsican siskin ( Carduelis corsicana , Syn .: Carduelis corsicanus , Serinus corsicana ), also called Corsican lemon siskin or Corsican lemon siskin, is a species of the finch family (Fringillidae). For a long time he was in the genre of Girlitze ( Serinus classified), but he is apparently closer to the Goldfinch ( Carduelis carduelis related).

Appearance

The Corsican siskin is yellowish-green in color and diffuse. It is 12 cm long. The short conical beak is pointed. In the dark wing there are two yellowish green wing bands. In contrast to the lemon curly , the top is rusty brown with dark stripes and the underside is more intensely light yellow.

distribution

The Corsican siskin is common on the islands of Corsica , Sardinia , Elba , Capraia and Gorgona .

Systematics

The Corsican siskin was previously listed formally as a subspecies of the lemon siskin, but it differs from this in both morphology and voice pitch (Cramp and Perrins 1994, Förschler and Kalko 2007). This assumption is confirmed by studies of the mitochondrial DNA (Sangster, 2000), so that the Corsican siskin is now listed as an independent species (Sangster et al., 2002).
