The Shenzhen is a destroyer of the Navy of the People's Republic of China (PLAN) and the only 051B ship , also known as the Luhai- class. It is named after the sub-provincial city of Shenzhen in Guangdong Province .

General

The Shenzhen is a significantly enlarged and improved version of the previous two destroyers of the Type 052 ( Luhu class). When it entered service in September 1999, the Shenzhen was the largest surface warship ever built in China. In addition, stealth technology was used here for the first time for the PLAN in order to reduce the radar and infrared signature. Compared to newer Chinese and Western ships with this technology, however, the stealth properties of the Shenzhen are still very rudimentary.

The construction of further units was abandoned in favor of more modern designs. Despite its relative size, the ship is fairly weak in combat; Medium to long-range air defense is completely absent. Therefore, the second fuselage, already well advanced in construction, was completed according to the design type 051C ( Luzhou class), which has significantly better capabilities, especially in the area of air defense.

equipment

The armament includes a 100 mm twin gun, an eight-times launcher for HQ-7 anti-aircraft missiles (a copy of the Crotale ) and four 37 mm twin guns for close-range air defense.

In addition, four quad-launchers for C-802 anti-ship missiles and torpedoes are equipped.

The Shenzen was the first Chinese ship to receive a RICE SHIELD type 3D air surveillance radar .
