Luigi "Baby Shacks" Manocchio (born June 23, 1927 ), also known as Louie , The Professor and The Old Man, is an Italian-American mobster of the US Cosa Nostra from Providence ( Rhode Island ) and former boss of the Patriarca family (New England Crime Family) from New England .

Life

The young Luigi Manocchio already had a criminal record in the 1940s.

In 1969 he was charged with participating in the murder of two men named Rudolph Marfeo and Anthony Melei. He then fled to France and later returned to the United States, where he lived covered in New York City for much of the 1970s . In 1979, Manocchio finally surrendered and pleaded guilty to several minor offenses. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

In July 1996, Mannocchio was charged with 43 others for membership in a burglary ring. Prosecutors alleged that the gang was responsible for the theft of $ 10 million.

Many family members went to prison and Mannocchio became the official head of the Patriarca family in 1996. When Mannocchio's trial began in April 1999, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years probation. He was described as "a clever and opportunistic old school leader" and "tough and competent". Mannochio's headquarters was a laundromat in Federal Hill, Providence.

According to reports, Mannocchio resigned as headman in 2009, leaving the post of new boss to his consigliere named Peter J. Limone .

On January 19, 2011, Manocchio was charged with blackmailing the owners of two Providence sex establishments called the Cadillac Lounge and the Satin Doll Club . The indictment also included his nicknames Louie , The Professor , The Old Man, and Baby Shacks . Manocchio again pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. Manocchio told the court, “In my position, I inherit the actions of my co-workers” and “I don't know what you think you know about my family or friends. I personally didn't threaten anyone. "

In May 2015, Manocchio was allowed to serve the remainder of his sentence as house arrest at his Federal Hill home . In November 2015, after six months of house arrest, he had served his entire sentence and was now a free man again at the age of 88.
