Luigi Picchi (born September 27, 1899 in Sairano , † August 12, 1970 in Como ) was an Italian organist, composer and music teacher.

Life

Picchi first took lessons from his father, who was the organist in the parish church of Sairano, and then from Giuseppe Baroni and F. Vittano in Pavia. From 1909 he studied at the Conservatory of Milan . He received his diploma in organ in 1924 and in composition in 1928. From 1928 until his death he was conductor and organist at Como Cathedral . He taught at several institutes in Como and Lugano and founded the Scuola Diocesana di Musica Sacra .

Picchi emerged as a composer primarily with church music (including 15 masses, 350 motets and as many organ pieces), he also wrote several textbooks and published several magazines, including L'organista liturgico , Laus decora and Fiori dell'Organo . In the archive of the Cathedral of Como, he rediscovered the extensive compositional work of Francesco Spagnoli Rusca .
