Luigi Pieroni (born September 8, 1980 in Liège ) is a former Belgian football player .
Career
Pieroni played in the youth teams of RRFC Montegnée and Standard Liège and began his professional career in 1999 at RFC Liège in the second division , where he was briefly active in the youth team from 1991 to 1993. Three years later he moved to the First Division for Excelsior Mouscron , where he was the league's top scorer with 28 goals in the 2003/04 season. After this season he went to France, where he first went on goal hunting for AJ Auxerre for two and a half years in Ligue 1 . In the winter of the 2006/07 season he moved to FC Nantes , but was able to score only one goal in 14 games in the second half of the season . In the following season, the Nantes loaned him for half a year to RC Lens and to Belgium to RSC Anderlecht . In 2008 he signed a contract with Valenciennes FC , but could not assert himself here either. At the beginning of 2010 he returned to his homeland, where he signed a two and a half year contract with KAA Gent. He was runner-up and cup winner with the Gentern 2010.
From 2004 Pieroni also played in the national team of Belgium . In his first appearance on February 18, 2004, he came on in the 2-0 draw against France a few minutes before the end of the game for Wesley Sonck . On March 1, 2006, he scored his first of two goals for the “Red Devils” in a 2-0 win in Luxembourg . In his last of 24 games for his home country, there was a 4-1 defeat against Morocco on March 26, 2008 .
Pieroni is married and has one son.
