Luis Alfredo Arango

Luis Alfredo Arango , actually Luis Alfredo Arango Enriquez , (* 1935 Totonicapán , Guatemala ; † November 3, 2001 ) was a Guatemalan teacher and writer.

Arango came from a well-to-do, long-established family that had provided senior administrative officials in the country for generations. After finishing school in his hometown, Arango went to Guatemala City to study at the local university a . a. Study pedagogy.

After successfully completing his studies, Arango got a job as a teacher in San José Nacahuil .

In 1968 Arango took over the management of the magazine “Nuevo Signo” as the responsible editor and held this position for two years. This paper soon became the mouthpiece of young modern poets, of whom Manuel José Arce - next to Arango - is the best known.

From the beginning, Arango took up the various forms of folklore of his homeland in his poetry. The spectrum ranges from simple phrases in everyday rural language to descriptions of the individual landscapes of Guatemala in sagas, fairy tales and legends.

Most of his stories are based on his experiences as a teacher in a predominantly rural Indian environment.
