Luis Calvo

Luis Antonio Calvo (born August 28, 1882 in Gámbita / Colombia , † April 22, 1945 in Agua de Dios ) was a Colombian musician.

Life

Luis Calvo was born in 1882 to Félix Serrano and Marcelina Calvo and developed a great interest in music at a young age. After his father left the family, Luis moved with his mother and sister Florinda to Tunja , where he received violin and piano lessons from Tomás Posada. During this time he wrote his first composition, Libya .

In May 1905 Calvo moved with his family to Bogotá and entered the military there. After several attempts he succeeded in joining the music academy in 1907, where he was taught the cello by Guillermo Uribe Holguín . In 1916 Luis Calvo was diagnosed with leprosy and he moved to the sanatorium in Agua de Dios, where he married Ana Rodríguez in October 1942 and died two and a half years after his wedding.
