Luis Pérez (poet)

Luís Pérez (* late 18th century in Tucumán ; † after 1834) was the editor of numerous newspapers and is an important representative of Gauchesque poetry.

In 1810 he took part in the May Revolution , later in various battles for the liberation of Peru. In 1830 he published his first gauchesque daily papers in support of the federalists, including El Gaucho , Torito de los Muchachos , Toro del Once and La Negrita . The following year he published La Gaucha . His arrest was ordered because of an article in El Toro del Once . Tomás de Anchorena committed himself to his benefit at Rosas' request . In 1832 Pérez wrote his Diálogos (German: Conversations ) and Cartas (German: Letters ). In 1833 he published the newspaper El Avisador and took part in the Revolución de los Restauradores (German: Revolution of the Restorers ), as a result of which Rosas (also known as Restaurador ) was able to consolidate his power. In 1834 Pérez published the newspaper El Gaucho Restaurador . In the same year he fell out with his colleague Pedro de Angelis, who was also a kind of court historian of Rosas'. He also made allegations against Economy Minister Manuel José García. As a result, his arrest was re-ordered. Since then nothing is known about the further development of his life.
