Luis Sambucetti (* 1861 in Montevideo ; † 1926 there ) was a Uruguayan violinist , conductor , music teacher and composer.

He began his musical training first in his home country, but continued it in Paris, where he was a violinist student of Hubert Léonard (1819–1890) and as a composer a student of Massenet (1842–1912) and Delibes (1836–1891) . After returning to his hometown, he developed into one of the leading personalities in Uruguay's musical life. He was the founder of the "Instituto Verdi" music school, a concert company and finally, in 1908, the Uruguayan National Orchestra. He also appeared as a conductor and member of a string quartet .

As a composer - also as a result of his training in Paris - he can be assigned to the style of French late Romanticism . He created works of almost all genres, including numerous string quartets, works for piano, violin, choir and orchestra, including the symphonic poem "San Francisco d'Assisi". An operetta has also come down to us.
