Gerd-Heinz Stevens

Gerd-Heinz Stevens (* 1957 in Rees- Millingen) is a German musicologist , composer and church musician .

Life

Stevens grew up in Mehrhoog on the Lower Rhine and attended the Collegium Augustinianum Gaesdonck near Goch until he graduated from high school . He then studied musicology , Dutch , folklore and Catholic theology in Cologne , Münster and Leuven (Belgium) and received his doctorate in 1983 on The Child Prodigy in Music History .

He was active as a church musician in Münster, Stuttgart , Cologne, Berlin and Bottrop , among others .

In 1989, he founded the Orgel PLUS Festival in Bottrop , which he has directed ever since. The festival premiered works by Sir Malcolm Arnold , Jürg Baur , Bernhard Krol and Harald Genzmer , for example .

As a musicologist, Stevens has published essays on organ works by Franz Liszt and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and has also emerged as a composer . His works include piano music, chamber music , music for organ plus instrument (s) , two masses and songs .
