Luise Büchner Prize for Journalism

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Luise Büchner Prize for Journalism has been awarded since 2012 by the Darmstadt Luise Büchner Society. It is named after the women's rights activist and writer Luise Büchner .

The prize is intended to honor authors who, in articles or books, uncover the inequalities between the sexes in the present and point out ways to a gender-equitable society. The first prize winner was the Berlin journalist Bascha Mika . With the support of the Darmstädter Echo , the city of Darmstadt and other Darmstadt institutions, the prize is endowed with the design of an entire newspaper page of the Darmstädter Echo in coordination with its editorial team and with a sum of 2500 euros (as of 2019).

This is intended to give the award winner the opportunity to present themselves to the public independently of an editorial assignment.

A jury of at least seven members, appointed by the company's board of directors, will decide on the award of the prize. In addition to three representatives from the board of directors, it includes a representative of the Darmstädter Echo and the city of Darmstadt, as well as at least one other journalist. The prizewinners from previous years are invited to support the jury with tips and suggestions.
