Lukáš Hurník

Lukáš Hurník (born July 12, 1967 in Prague ) is a Czech composer.

Life

Hurník received composition lessons from his father Ilja Hurník . He studied music at the Charles University in Prague and then worked for the cultural channel of the Czech Radio Český rozhlas 3 - Vltava as a program director for musical educational programs. In 2006 he became President of the Czech Music Council.

He gained his first experience as a musician as the bass player in the rock group Biwoy of the drummer Claudius Kryšpín . He later implemented this in the Hot Suite for piano four hands, with which he won first prize in the 1990 International Piano Duo Association Tokyo competition. He also composed church music (including a Magnificat ), orchestral pieces (including variations on a theme by Frank Zappa ) and chamber music. In 2007 he was awarded the Cena Rudolfa II (Rudolf II Prize) by the Masaryk Academy .
