The Josef Deimer Tunnel is a 1470 meter long road tunnel in Landshut . It was put into operation in 1999 as the Hofberg Tunnel . The construction costs amounted to 65.9 million euros. In 2007 the tunnel was renamed in honor of the Mayor of Landshut, who was in office from 1970 to 2004, Josef Deimer , while he was still alive.

The tunnel comprises one tube or two lanes and runs under the Hofberg hill chain and thus under Trausnitz Castle . It is part of a connection between Bundesstraße 11 in the west of Landshut and Bundesstraße 299 in the east of the city. The tunnel route itself is not assigned to a federal or state road. The transit traffic , which used the “Altstadt” street in the inner city of Landshut as the central traffic artery until the tunnel was built, has since been diverted through the tunnel. The tunnel construction thus enabled the later redesign of the old town to become a pedestrian zone . Around 4.4 million vehicles pass through the tunnel every year. The truck share is 4.6%.

In 2015, the tunnel received the rating "very good" in the Europe-wide ADAC tunnel test . The tunnel has continuous traffic radio reception and is completely video-monitored.
