Lukáš Wagenknecht (born September 24, 1978 in Pardubice ) is a Czech economist, auditor and politician who has been a member of the Senate of the Czech Republic for the Czech Pirate Party since the 2018 elections .

Wagenknecht is co-founder of the auditing organization and think tank good governance and is an employee of Neovlivní.cz, the investigative news agency .

Life

Lukáš Wagenknecht was born in Pardubice. He studied at the Faculty of Economics and Administration at the University of Pardubice from 1998 to 2003 and began his professional career as an internal auditor in the Ministry of Interior in 2003. From February 2014 to June 2015, Wagenknecht was the Czech Republic's first deputy minister of finance in the field of financial management and auditing . In 2015 he received the Courage Award from the anti-corruption foundation Nadační fond proti korupci for his whistleblowing .

In the 2018 election , Wagenknecht was elected to the Senate for the Czech Pirate Party and teaches at the Prague University of Economics . In October 2019, Wagenknecht filed a complaint with the Court of Justice of the European Union (ECJ) to determine that the European Council has illegally failed to act on the conflict of interests of Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš with regard to the EU budget. This was rejected in July 2020.
