Lukas Vischer (collector)
Lukas Vischer (* 24. October 1780 in Basel , † 23. December 1840 in Castle Ebenrain in Sissach ) was a Swiss businessman and, like his father, a gifted amateur - artists . Of ethnological interest are his depictions of Creek Indians in the United States of America and his studies of Mexican life. During his nine-year stay in the Central American country, he brought together one of the most important European collections of pre-Columbian sculpture and ceramics. It is now in the Basel Museum of Cultures , the city's old ethnographic museum.
